Docker River School is located 670km southwest of Alice Springs by road, via Uluru, in the community of Docker River. The community is situated in the Petermann Ranges in the far south-western corner of the Northern Territory; 7km east of the Western Australian border. The population of the community is approximately 420; however this fluctuates dependant on cultural events. The main languages spoken are Pitjantjatjara and Ngaanyatjara. The road to the community is both sealed and unsealed; 4WD is recommended. Docker River can also be accessed by air via charter services only.

Docker River School is part of the Lasseter Group School and provides education services to students from early years to middle years. All students attending the school require English as a Second Language support. Pitjantjatjara and English are used as a combined method of instruction in the early childhood classes.

The school has a close relationship with the community youth program, which does not allow children into the recreation program, including swimming, if they fail to attend school.
