Finke School is located 400km south of Alice Springs in the community of Apatula on the western edge of the Simpson Desert. The population of the community is approximately 250 and the main languages spoken are Arrernte, Yankunyjatjara and Pitjantjatjara. The community can be accessed via road, 4WD is recommended and access can be dependent on weather conditions. Apatula can also be accessed by air via charter services only.
Finke School is part of the Lasseter Group School and provides education services to students from early years to middle years. Student attendance is relatively high in partly due to enthusiastic support given by the community. English is a second language but is widely spoken in the community. The whole school program is English only.
