Remote schools

Most schools in remote areas are primary schools with smaller numbers of secondary schools than in urban areas. Some remote schools are Community Education Centres, providing primary and junior secondary education. These schools enrol secondary-age students. Some provide Vocational Education and Training programs.

Homeland Learning Centres are also located in remote communities. These schools often have only one or two teachers and cater for Indigenous students from a range of age groups. Homeland Learning Centres also provide programs to primary and secondary school-aged students. The Department of Employment, Education and Training offers more information about education and schools in the Northern Territory.
