Laramba

Access to the community, about 2½ hours drive from Alice Springs, is by the Napperby Station road which runs west from the Stuart Highway, 122kms north of Alice Springs. Laramba is located 83kms from the turnoff.

There is a good weather day airstrip at Laramba, 2km from the community. The airstrip is midway between the community and the Napperby homestead. 

Facilities include a general store, health clinic, oval, basketball court, recreation shed, night patrol, mechanical workshop, Centrelink agent and childcare centre.

Anmatyerr people have a strong culture and the land is very important. Their dreamings, traditional dancing, ceremonies and paintings are also important. All the Laramba School students are Indigenous and speak Anmatyerr as their first language. Very little English is spoken outside of the school. There is strong community support for the school. Students at Laramba range from five to 17 years old.

There are 84 students enrolled.
